Some Finishing touches to Lillie and Lola's Old Fashioned New England Bedroom

I took these pictures in a huge rush the last day there when the lighting wasn't that great so they aren't that crisp but you can at least get a feel for some of the things we added.  We did most of the work on making over this room over Memorial Day weekend (you can read that post here) so this summer just added a few little touches in here like the rug, the trunks at the ends of the beds and the silhouette of each of the girls above each bed. There isn't an overhead light in this room but we had this little plug-in chandelier that has been just sitting in a closet since we moved a year ago. (It used to be in the little window seat area in Lillie's room in our townhouse). I figured seeing how it wasn't being used it couldn't hurt to try it up here. I don't love how it looks but it's nice now having a light. The plug it's hooked into is one of those ones that turns on and off with the switch right when you enter the room so it works just like a regular overhead light. I still really want to move that piece between the beds out to the hallway and replace it with something that will go better in this room style-wise but so far I haven't had any luck and it was functional having this in here for now. I saw them when I was last visiting and thought they would be perfect for in here so we copied her and Jason picked up two to add in here. I love the natural element they add to the room and they are so practical for storage. I'm actually pondering buying a set for the girls' room here at home. We've actually added a few finishing touches to that side (a rug, some trunks for the ends of the beds, and silhouettes above their bed) that I will share soon but for today I thought I would share the other side of their room seeing how I still on the hunt for the right little nightstand/dresser for between the beds. We have a temporary one there now but I am hoping to find the right piece although I am running out of time this trip. So, for now here are photos of the opposite wall. We painted a dresser from my grandfather's house with some Annie Sloan paint in graphite. I actually just quickly put one coat on during my last trip and ran out of time to add the second coat and wax it so figured I would get to it this trip. I've been working on a bunch of other projects though this trip and haven't gotten around to it so it may have to wait until next trip. It probaby won't ever be used as a true home office because I do most of my computer work downstairs but it will make a great space to work on projects! I am so excited to finally have a place to setup my sewing machine and plan on adding my silhouette machine here as well.  In fact I've already sewn several things since getting it set up. (Nothing super exciting - just some basic pillows and the ottoman slipcover in the playroom - but it still was a lot of fun finally sewing again!) I spent nine months hunting through Craigslist and all the local thrift stores for the perfect desk that I could makeover but had no luck so finally just pulled the trigger on this IKEA one. It was the most inexpensive option I could find that I still liked the look of. I have to say even though I had hoped to find something a little more unique I have been really happy with this. It is very well made and weighs a ton. As far as the artwork goes - I plan on hanging it on the wall as soon as I decide the exact placements of the desk but I can't figure that out until I find a storage piece so for now the picture is just leaning there. I have to say this has been by far one of those most fun blogging things I have done. I have always enjoyed switching things up a bit but always stick with my same general theme so it was fun to mix up my colors a bit more for this! The guidelines for the challenge were to basically take a room and "shop" our home and show it styled three different ways. We were allowed a $100 budget if need to spruce up with fresh flowers  or  a few pillows or something, but we didn't need to spend anything. We were supposed to rely of furniture placement and using what we already had. Today, tomorrow and the next day we would be showing a different version each day and then Friday will be a recap and link party for anyone that wants to show their restyled spaces. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><i> (If you are new here: we just moved into a new home yesterday. I did this challenge before we packed up our old home. I have to admit this was my favorite one but I didn't keep it this way because it didn't flow with the dining room space that's connected.  I took the chairs from the living room and flanked the mirrored chest with them. (The mirrored chest used to be in that spot but had been in the dining room since last fall so I moved it back in here). The trunk I bought at an antique mall right after I graduated from college. Eventually I passed it down to Dana, and then Jason and then it came back to us and it was fun to use it again. I think I have a spot for it in our new house. The black and white pillows are from Target and I bought them for something else but was able to use them for this project.
