Some Painting in the Family Room

Ha! As I mentioned earlier this week. I rather spontaneously decided to repaint all of the trim, doors, windows in our kitchen/family room and back hallway and then also painted the walls. I had been thinking about doing it for a while but figured I would wait until after Christmas but then before I knew it I had started and then I couldn't stop. I still need to do the cabinets in the kitchen but I can't decide whether or not to go with white or a gray similar to the fireplace. And I can't decided if I want to keep the fireplace this color or not either. I painted it Winter's Gate (I think that's what it was called) by Benjamin Moore. And for trim and doors I did the same as I did in the rest of the house, Simply White and Mopboard Black both in semi-gloss. And then I used Horizon for the walls.  Although I am not sure yet about what I am going to use on the cabinets and am not sure about the fireplace (I am pondering keeping it but also pondering painting it black, or painting it white and the bricks a charcoal color...decisions, decisions) I have to say I am so incredibly happy about the trim and the doors. I have absolutely loved having the black doors in the rest of our house and at Jason's and it feels nice to have everything all cohesive. This room doesn't get much natural light so it has to be a really sunny day to get any decent photos and it's been raining and overcast here the last several days. We spend most of our time in this room and love the open feel of it. You might notice that the drum shade flush mount that was in the kitchen is gone. I moved that to our master bedroom and then used this little light that I plan on hanging in our back hall as a temporary fix. As I mentioned before I liked the way the other rug looked in here much better! However, it was too small (although that was hard to tell in photos) which always drove me crazy. We didn't do a whole lot but we did change up a few things. First, because we added the bar overhang to the counter and some stools that meant we moved the table over about a foot and because of that the wire chandelier didn't work as well so I took that back down and moved it out to the porch. Then my mom surprised me with this tiered stand. My sister, Jamie purchased one for a great price a couple years ago when we were all together antiquing up in Peterborough and we've all been wanting one just like it ever since. Every time we've shown it here on the blog (most recently in the post about <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/04/everlys-first-birthday-party.html">Everly's first birthday party</a>) we've gotten quite a few e-mails and comments asking where it was purchased and seeing how it was from a little shop in NH that no longer carries it we aren't much help. Well, a reader commented about this one from Mothology and she was right - it's the exact one. It was pricier than the one Jamie had purchased so I was quite surprised and thrilled when it showed up on my doorstep. We moved the other one up to our <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/some-finishing-touches-to-our-gray.html">gray guest bedroom </a>where the colors went perfectly (it always drove me a little crazy that it was one size too small for this room - it was hard to tell that in photos but in real life it was more obvious). We took this one from the playroom and moved it down here. It's the perfect size for this room. I have to say I think the other one looked a little bit prettier in here but all in all moving the three rugs (we also moved the one from the<a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/adding-desk-to-our-guest-bedroomoffice.html"> black and white guest bedroom</a> into the <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/playroom-full-reveal.html">playroom</a>) works out best overall. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
