Adding a Desk to our Guest Bedroom/Office

It was a horribly rainy and overcast day when I took these so I had to crank by ISO way up to even attempt taking any photos.</i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We finally added a desk to this room so it can now function somewhat as an office. It probaby won't ever be used as a true home office because I do most of my computer work downstairs but it will make a great space to work on projects! I am so excited to finally have a place to setup my sewing machine and plan on adding my silhouette machine here as well.  In fact I've already sewn several things since getting it set up. (Nothing super exciting - just some basic pillows and the ottoman slipcover in the playroom - but it still was a lot of fun finally sewing again!) I spent nine months hunting through Craigslist and all the local thrift stores for the perfect desk that I could makeover but had no luck so finally just pulled the trigger on this IKEA one. It was the most inexpensive option I could find that I still liked the look of. I have to say even though I had hoped to find something a little more unique I have been really happy with this. It is very well made and weighs a ton. As far as the artwork goes - I plan on hanging it on the wall as soon as I decide the exact placements of the desk but I can't figure that out until I find a storage piece so for now the picture is just leaning there. text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The chair is not an ideal fit but it was a hand-me down  (it was my parent's and then my sister Dana recovered it in black and used it in her apartment for a couple of years and then it ended up in our garage) and works for now seeing how it was free but I am keeping my eyes out for something a little bit smaller. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I did take quite a few photos though before we left last week so now that I finally took the time to sit down on my computer last night I was able to go through and start editing several posts worth of them. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Today I thought I would show you how the guest bedroom/office is back to a more neutral more year-round look after adding some <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/a-little-more-progress-in-guest-bedroom.html">bright pink in there earlier</a> this year in honor of Valentine's Day.  It's probably a little confusing to call this the office at this point seeing how I haven't gotten a desk yet and started setting up the "office" part of the room but I figured I would start referring to it as that to help differentiate it from the <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/02/our-gray-guest-bedroom-and-full-source.html">gray guest bedroom</a> now that that room has been updated. I am hoping to get started on the office part of this room in the next month or so the next time I share photos of this room it should actually be a combination office and guest room. Or at least that's the plan anyway! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I moved the pink pillows into Lillie and Lola's room for now but think they will eventually end up in the playroom once we finish painting in there. I am hoping to get the walls painted next week and then start playing around in there decorating and organizing. I added a few neutral accents that I already owned and that was about it for changes in here. Our Gray Guest Bedroom and a Full Source List

One of the things we were most excited about when we found this house last summer was that it had four bedrooms. Because Lillie and Lola begged to continue sharing a room that meant we were going to have plenty of extra space for all of our family members who pretty regularly come to visit us. Up through Christmas this room was pretty dated and depressing looking. We really wanted both guest rooms  to feel welcoming so our family members would enjoy staying in here. We were able to get <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/a-little-more-progress-in-guest-bedroom.html">the other guest room</a> well on it's way before Christmas but this one we didn't start working on until after Christmas. We've already had three rounds of guest come through just since we painted this room a few weeks ago. First my sister, Dana was here, then my mom, sister Jamie, and baby niece Everly were here and then my brother, Jason and his best friend, Jake just came for a day and a half earlier this week. Originally this room was also going to serve partly as a home office but once I started working on the other guest room this fall I realized the way that room is laid out it will actually work better as an office so this gray room will function just as a guest room and<a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/a-little-more-progress-in-guest-bedroom.html"> the room with the white beadboard wallpaper</a> will act both as an office and a guest room once I get around to adding a desk and some other functional type pieces to the opposite side of the room from the bed. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt;">I actually wasn't sure what direction I was going to go in for this bedroom. I originally thought about using navy as the main color in here and then for a while considered more of an aqua color and then I almost decided on going to a chocolate color similar to what we had done in <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/new-nursery-cottage-of-month-and-winner.html">Lorelei's nursery at our last house</a>. Then we got an e-mail from Ballard Designs asking if we would be interested in any of their new bedding. Once I saw their new <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/audree-pom-pom-quilt-bedding-gray/bed-bath/category/bedding/quilts/294714">Audree Pom Pom Quilt and Shams</a> I had my inspiration. I completely and totally fell in love with it. I loved all three colors it came in and was torn on which one to go with. Ultimately I thought the gray would work best with the furniture we were going to use in here and well, I love gray! I also loved the <a href="http://www.ballarddesigns.com/jardin-toile-bedding-gray/bed-bath/category/bedding/duvets/294710">Jardin Toile Duvet and Euro Shams</a> and they mixed so beautifully with the quilt.</span><br /><span style="font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt;">After I chose my bedding it was time to get to work on transforming the room itself. The first thing I did was start priming and painting all the woodwork. I went with Benjamin Moore's Simply White in a semi-gloss finish and Mopboard Black for the doors, also in a semi-gloss finish. Then it was time to say good-bye to the "pink house wallpaper" (it was actually more of a faded maroon, but Lillie thought they looked pink and was quite sad that we were getting rid of them). In the rest of the house we had the wallpaper removed before I started painting, but in here I decided to just paint right over it. For the walls I chose Benjamin Moore's Graystone in a Matte Finish. I used their Aura line of paint because it has a built-in primer. I had done this before in our first house years ago and was very happy with the results. This time I cut a few corners and have to admit I wish I hadn't. In our first house I coated the walls first with at least one (or actually I think even two coats) of Kilz Primer. I skipped that step in here but if I were to do it again I would not skip it.  </span><br /><span style="font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.0pt;">Then it was time to bring in the furniture. We already owned most of the furniture in here from our last house (the bed, the mirrored dresser, and the silver chest). We did purchase the chair, mirrors and chandelier for this room though. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, we still need to add a rug and some more artwork on the walls, but it sure is a big improvement from the beginning on January when we started working on it! </span><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
